Inaprubahan ng House committee on suffrage and electoral reforms noong Biyernes ang panukalang batas nagtatakda ng panibagong petsa ng halalan sa ikalawang Lunes ng Mayo sa 2009. Sa ulat ng dzBB radio nitong Lunes, sinabi ni Makati Rep. Teodoro "Teddy Boy" Locsin, tagapangulo ng komite, na “unanimous" ang desisyon ng mga miyembro na iatras ang halalan. Kabilang sa mga naghain ng panukala sa Kamara para ipagpaliban ang magkasabay na halalan ay sina Reps. Edgardo Gullas (Cebu) at Jesus Madrona (Romblon). Nagkakaisa sina Gullas at Madrona na hindi makabubuti sa pamahalaan na gumastos muli ng malaking halaga samantalang katatapos lang ng May 14 midterm elections. Sa 2007 General Appropriations Act, naglaan ang Kongreso ng P9.17 bilyon sa Commission on Election. Halos kalahati na nito o P5.2 bilyon ang nagastos sa nagdaang halalan. Tinatayang P2.131 bilyon ang gagastusin ng Comelec para sa barangay at SK polls. Nagpahayag ang Comelec na tuloy ang halalan sa Oktubre 29 kung walang ipapasang batas ang Kongreso na nagtatakda sa panibagong petsa ng halalan. Inihahanda na umano ng komite ni Locsin ang ulat para iendorso sa plenaryo ang panukala sa pagkansela ng magkasabay na eleksyon. - Fidel Jimenez, GMANews.TV
