The police chief of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) hit back at the Commission on Elections for its ultimatum for him to arrest former Maguindanao poll supervisor Lintang Bedol.

Radio dzBB reported Wednesday that ARMM police director Chief Supt. Joel Goltiao said the Comelec may have gotten the wrong address for Bedol, whom he said is based in Region 12.

Citing information reaching him, Goltiao said Bedol is presently based in Cotabato, which he said is outside the jurisdiction of ARMM.

He said he could not understand why the Comelec picked on him in venting its frustration over police’s failure to arrest Bedol.
The dzBB report said Goltiao challenged the Comelec to pinpoint Bedol’s whereabouts within the ARMM, and his men will immediately arrest him.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Comelec issued a resolution ordering the ARMM police to enforce its Oct. 22 arrest order on Bedol within 24 hours.

The Comelec expressed irritation that the ARMM police failed to get Bedol one week after the arrest order was issued.

Bedol was ordered arrested for contempt, after failing to show up in Comelec hearings on alleged poll irregularities in Maguindanao province in the May elections. - GMANews.TV
