In an interview Sunday on DZBB radio, Villar said what is needed now is not to form teams for 2010, but to make sure 2010 elections will push through in the first place. “Napakarami pang mangyayari sa darating na panahon. Halos imposible masabi kung ano ang magiging final team sa 2010 kung magkakaroon ng election sa 2010. Sa ngayon ang dapat natin siguraduhin muna magkakaroon ng election sa 2010 (So many things can still happen before 2010, it’s impossible to make an accurate prediction now. But what is important now is to make sure elections push through in 2010 in the first place)," he said. He likened the political scene to a marathon. “Ang nauuna sa takbuhan hindi nauuuna sa finish line (The frontrunner now will not necessarily reach the finish line first)," he said. Villar also said there is the chance President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo will decide not to step down in 2010, the same way she “broke" her promise in 2002 not to run in the presidential race in 2004. “Pag nasanay ang isang tao riyan baka ayaw umalis. Kailangan siguraduhin natin aalis siya sa 2010 at magkakaroon ng maayos na election (If you-know-who gets comfortable in power, she may not want to leave. So we must make sure she leaves in 2010 so we can have a peaceful transition of power)," he said. For now, he said the Senate will continue to deliberate on key bills and continue its investigation, as well as prepare to deliberate on the P1.227-trillion national budget once it resumes session Monday. - GMANews.TV
