Senatorial candidate Prospero Pichay, who has been a congressman for three terms, should have introduced a bill in Congress to strengthen our agriculture sector, and provide vegetable farmers with subsidy. Instead, he kept silent, at the least, about the importation of vegetables from China. Nowadays, “pechay” [Chinese cabbage] and other vegetables are expensive and hardly affordable to the masses. A very small bundle of pechay here in Zamboanga City costs P5.
“Planting a Pichay in the Senate” will not alleviate poverty. After spending P16 million per week for all sorts of campaign tricks, Pichay will be more expensive after the elections -- if he wins. TONY ITURRALDE (via e-mail)
