The Commission on Elections said Tuesday that the Genuine Opposition’s Antonio Trillanes IV still can’t be proclaimed as the 11th winning senatorial candidate because it is still “mathematically possible" that he could be overtaken by other candidates.

Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos said Trillanes can’t be proclaimed “until after it is mathematically impossible (for Trillanes) to be overtaken" by other bets.

The Comelec has proclaimed winners of ten of the 12 contested Senate seats.

"There is still a mathematical possibility to be overtaken. (The votes involved were) more than 700,000 but less than 800,000," Comelec Commissioner Nicodemo Ferrer said.
In the Comelec partial tally as of Monday 1 p.m., Trillanes was still at 11th with 11,093,463 votes, which put him ahead by 284,231 votes over fellow GO bet and 12th-ranked Aquilino “Koko" Pimentel III and by 395,638 votes over 13th-ranked Team Unity candidate Juan Miguel Zubiri.

The National Board of Canvassers has only to tally canvass votes from Surigao del Norte with 261,735 registered voters and Maguindanao with 337,108.

The board will also be waiting for the votes coming from 12 precincts in Basilan where special elections will be held. Affected will be seven precincts in Sumisip with 26, 551 registered voters and five precincts in Akbar with some 5,000 registered voters. -GMANews.TV
