Philippine Election, Politics and Controversies

Two Malacañang officials who were asked by the Senate to participate in Friday’s reinvestigation of the “Hello, Garci" controversy did not readily commit to the upper chamber’s invitation.

Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye and national security adviser Norberto Gonzales both took a wait and see attitude on Monday. “I’ll cross the bridge when I get there," Bunye told reporters in a text message.

Gonzales, in a telephone interview, said he wanted to see the invitation first before deciding whether he would accept the invitation or not.
“It’s normal" he added when asked if he and Bunye would first seek the permission of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo before they respond to the invitation.

Asked if the President would agree, Gonzales said, “It’s still speculative and we haven’t received the invitation yet."

He, however, said he is prepared to face the inquiry if Mrs Arroyo agrees and his presence at the Senate probe is really necessary. - GMANews.TV
