Senator Panfilo "Ping" Lacson on Saturday advised former Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr to prepare himself for the probe of the allegedly anomalous Northrail project.

In an interview with radio dwIZ, Lacson said the Senate could press De Venecia for information about the alleged $150-million bribe involved in the project, and that his testimony on the alleged corruption could be used against him by Malacañang.

"Nasa mandate ng Senate Blue Ribbon Committee na tanungin basta sa corruption pwede naman talaga (The Blue Ribbon Committee is mandated to ask questions on issues of corruption),"Lacson said.

He said De Venecia could be further grilled at the Senate if he testifies on the botched $329.48-million broadband network deal with China's Zhong Xing Telecommunications Equipment (ZTE) Corp.

As De Venecia further spills out the beans, he should expect more bombshells from Palace allies against him, according to Lacson.

"Kaya dapat tingnang mabuti ito di lang ng Senado kundi executive branch din. Bakit lumalabas ito ngayon, dahil may threat si JDV magsasalita pag resume ng session ng Kongreso (You have to look at the executive branch on why the information on Northrail is coming out only now. Is Malacañang afraid that de Venecia will testify before the Senate on the ZTE mess)?" he said.

"Dapat ihanda niya sarili niya, di pwedeng mag-implicate ng iba lang (De Venecia should steel himself and tell the truth. He should not implicate everyone else and protect himself)," he added.

Meanwhile, Lacson said the perjury charge filed by former presidential chief of staff Michael Defensor against ZTE witness Rodolfo Noel Lozada Jr smacked of "harassment as usual."

"Yan ang pattern ng Malacañang, pag may testigo lumalabas involved ang Malacañang lahat ng galamay pagagalawin para i-harass ang testigo.(That is Malacañang's pattern. If a witness comes out against them, they do everything possible to intimidate that witness)," he said.
