Public school teachers on Monday asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for security and added compensation when they conduct election duty in the upcoming village (barangay) and youth elections on October 29.

The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) voiced this request to Comelec during a meeting in Manila for the conduct of the elections, radio dzBB reported.

During the meeting, ACT sought an increase to P3,000 in teachers’s compensation for election services, from the previous amount of P2,000. The teachers’s group also sought an increase in teachers’s allowance to P300, from the previous amount of P100.

Comelec officer-in-charge Resurreccion Borra said he will endorse the teachers's requests to the budget department.

Borra also noted that at present, teachers doing poll duty are entitled to P200,000 insurance, five days' service credit, and legal assistance from the Public Attorney's Office. - GMANews.TV
