The Commission on Elections in Iloilo City reported an 80 percent turnout of voters in Monday's barangay (village) and Sangguniang Kabataan elections in the city.

The Comelec said the situation was peaceful after 246,858 voters went to the polls to cast their votes.

Jonathan Sayno, Comelec election assistant, said that despite reports of shortage of ballots, all voters were able to cast their votes.

In the National Capital Region, the Philippine National Police said the conduct of elections went smoothly.
Director Geary Barias, PNP National Capital Region Police Office chief, said the conduct of elections in the metropolis was “generally peaceful" despite “minor" election-related incidents that resulted in the apprehension of 43 people.

“Voters’ education, the deployment of police personnel and the not-so-intense rivalry in Metro Manila meant a lot to the peaceful conduct of voting," Barias said, noting that as of Monday afternoon, police has not monitored major election-related violence incidents in the metropolis.

In the press conference, Barias also said that cases of alleged poll cheating and minor poll-related incidents were monitored in several areas in the metropolis.

Barias said 34 suspected flying voters were apprehended in Pasay City which prompted the suspension of elections in nine precincts in the city. Five other suspected flying voters were arrested in Quezon City and another lone suspect was nabbed in Navotas City.

Vote-buying incidents were also recorded, leading to the apprehension of a person in Caloocan City and another in Malabon City.

In San Juan City, a person was arrested for gun-totting although it is not yet ascertained if it is election-related, Barias said.

Two mauling incidents were reported each in Makati City and Manila City. - GMANews.TV
