Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said Honasan was just exercising prudence when he declared that he is not sure whether Mrs Arroyo cheated in the 2004 presidential election. Honasan has also apologized for being rebellious, saying his outlook has changed after he went through a “spiritual healing" while in detention. “I have no such knowledge of any such secret deal," Ermita said, adding in jest, “Siyempre secret nga (Of course that’s a secret)." Ermita said he believes Honasan wants to focus on his campaign rather than issue controversial statements that might jeopardize the court conditions of his temporary release. “If I were in the shoes of [former senator Gregorio] Honasan, prudence dictates that I should be more discerning in my statement because it’s good enough that the courts gave him temporary liberty especially because he’s a candidate," said Ermita, noting that Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez is still contesting Honasan’s bail granted by a lower court. Ermita said it is also “natural" for detained Anakpawis Rep. Crispin Beltran and Magdalo leader Antonio Trillanes IV to ask the courts for bail, citing the cases of Honasan and Bayan Muna Rep. Satur Ocampo as precedents. - GMANews.TV
