In an interview on dzBB radio, Presidential Management Staff head Cerge Remonde denied rumors that congressmen were offered money and project offers during Thursday’s early-morning meeting in Malacañang, saying these are merely “political intrigues." "Of course we are denying that. Hindi totoo yan (That's not true). Those are just political intrigues," Remonde said, although he declined to disclose what transpired in the meeting saying he was not there. "Walang katapusan ang political intrigues we are subjected to. But as I had said so many times before, we have a country to run," he added. On Thursday, House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr confirmed that the impeachment complaint was discussed during an "emergency meeting" called by President Arroyo in Malacañang. De Venecia, who was among the 185 pro-administration congressmen who attended the early-morning meeting with President Arroyo, also hinted the fate of the impeachment bid may be known within the day. Within hours after the meeting, De Venecia announced he is inhibiting himself from the impeachment proceedings and delegated his functions to House Deputy Speaker Raul del Mar who immediately referred the complaint to the House committee on rules. The House minority bloc had said the impeachment complaint filed by lawyer Rafael “Roel" Pulido on Friday last week was meant to "inoculate" President Arroyo from a hostile impeachment. The three-page Pulido impeachment complaint was based on the scrapped $329-million national broadband network (NBN) deal with China's Zhong Xing Telecommunications (ZTE) Corp., alleging that Mrs Arroyo has betrayed public trust for her failure to stop the reported bribery involving some of her Cabinet officials. - GMANews.TV
