Teodoro said preparations made by the military and police will pre-empt any such plots, even as he said troops are ready for “any eventuality." “I am not seeing any destabilization effort but we are prepared for any exigency that may happen…but (the Armed Forces) have to also be vigilant about these things and remain prepared in case we see something," Teodoro told reporters after his visit at the Philippine Army headquarters in Fort Bonifacio in Makati City. “Our preparation is enough to prevent (any destabilization moves) and we are prepared to face any eventuality," he added. The Defense chief also dismissed talks of an ongoing recruitment of soldiers as part of a destabilization plot against the government, saying authorities have not monitored any recruitment attempts in the military. “The units of the Armed Forces are not open to recruitment. We have not monitored anything," Teodoro said. Teodoro clarified that his visit to the Army headquarters on Thursday was not meant to check on the loyalty of the officers and men after the verdict. He said this was the last leg of his visit to the military's major services which he started since assumed his post as defense chief last month. “We don’t have to check the loyalty of the soldiers because I’m sure they are professional and they are loyal to the chain of command… They know their duties and I’m confident and I’m sure that they will perform it in a professional manner," Teodoro said. President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo has survived two destabilization attempts – both involving military officers and men – since assuming the presidency in January 2001. The first was in July 2003 when more than 300 junior officers staged the short-lived Oakwood mutiny. The latest was in February 24 last year when former Marine commandant Maj. Gen. Renato Miranda and former Scout Ranger commander Brig. Gen. Danilo Lim planned to join anti-government protests and withdraw their support from President Arroyo. - GMANews.TV
