President Arroyo’s order for the speedy release of the Philippine Development Assistance Fund, also known as the pork barrel, was meant for the railroading of Charter change that would extend her term beyond 2010, the fisherfolk alliance Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) said Monday. In a statement, Pamalakaya national chairman Fernando Hicap said the timely release of pork barrel is meant to rally the pro-Arroyo lawmakers “to score a giant kill for Cha-cha." "This is simply one plus one equals two. The President issued an executive order on the eve of the House deliberation on the resolution on Cha-cha that would extend the term of Mrs. Arroyo and her political lackeys in Congress," he said. Under Administrative Order No. 236, President Arroyo directed Department of Budget and Management (DBM) to speed up the release of pork barrel to lawmakers to hasten economic growth, produce jobs and ensure social welfare services to the people. She also ordered the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Presidential Management Staff (PMS) to push agencies in to implement these social welfare programs. "It is like President Arroyo telling her army of political puppets in Congress to dance the Cha-cha in exchange for their awaited pork barrel,” Hicap said of the order. Pamalakaya said the situation merits the all-out anti-Cha-cha gospel and intervention of the influential Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), telling the 177 archbishops and bishops of the group that President Arroyo will again flood Congress with billions of taxpayers money “to score an Olympic medal for Cha-cha.” "The die is cast and the archbishops and bishops must come forward to join the people’s outrage against this selfish Ch-acha and term extension project of Malacañang,” Hicap said. - D'Jay Lazaro, GMANews.TV
